Service-learning Information for Teachers

GVI runs curriculum, CAS, and experiential service-learning opportunities around the world on multi-award winning trips. With over 25,000 travelers since beginning, GVI knows how to ensure safe, life-changing courses that make a real difference towards fostering global citizenship and intercultural understanding.

Staffed and resourced by GVI all year round, our courses offer unique opportunities to engage in long-term, high impact work, while simultaneously experiencing deep cultural immersion, guided reflection periods, and a comprehensive educational curriculum. By taking students out of their comfort zone, challenging them, and fostering their curiosity, they gain communication skills, teamwork abilities, techniques for effective reflection, and cross-cultural understanding. By enabling students – our next generation – to see and experience the world for themselves, we can help them become active global citizens.

Our service-learning courses are designed to fully immerse and challenge students in contrasting environments. Typically trips are one to two weeks in length and are varied, exciting, and tailored to the group. All of these elements ensure that students have a life-changing, memorable, and positive learning experience. We have a thorough understanding of intercultural issues that may affect your students, and have worked with schools from all over the world.

Examining Group Dynamics in Service Learning

Examining Group Dynamics in Service Learning

The importance of group dynamics in service-learning is an important factor to consider. As a microcosm of community development, service-learning programs strive to better incorporate an individual’s experience – via student learning – for a collective good, through community-building that is takes place both within and without the classroom setting.

Our 3 easy steps to booking your Service Learning program with GVI….

We have staff all around the world, and will come and meet you and your group in any location. We can do presentations, meet students and their parents, and work through the whole process with you and your group.

Why you should travel with GVI

Three great reasons to take your students abroad with GVI.

  1. A teacher travels free with groups of ten or more students!
  2. Safety. GVI provides 24/7 support from our experienced staff, who are based full-time on the ground, as well as additional support from our main headquarters. An experienced group leader will accompany the group, taking overall responsibility for the safety of the group.
  3. We make it easy! From booking and pre-departure preparation, to in-field direction and assistance, to post trip communication, we take the pressure off you with comprehensive support.

I thoroughly recommend GVI to anyone. I took a group of my students to South Africa in 2014 and they all had an amazing and life changing experience. Prior to the trip, the support we received from GVI was incredible, and their hard work and attention to detail made sure that our itinerary whilst on the trip was perfect. I will be looking to take more school groups away with GVI in the future, and urge you too as well!
